KS Jewelry Design

When: Fall 2020

Role: Jewelry Designer/3D Designer

Team Size: Group Project

Objective: Collaborated in a team of 5 students to design a jewelry collection for GenZ for the Kendra Scott brand with the intention of narrowing it down to 1 design by the end of the semester. With this design, we challenged 4 other groups by presenting to KS representatives and competing in a voting poll, with the winning group having their product sold in Kendra Scott stores.

Process: We began by conducting research for the GenZ market by utilizing online articles and sending a survey to students at the University of Texas at Austin. In this initial survey, we determined what styles, colors, and metals GenZ prefers to wear regularly in their day-to-day jewelry. The next step was to individually create initial sketches for jewelry designs and then compare those designs with our team members to find overarching themes or ideas. From there, we narrowed down the style of jewelry we wanted to focus on and created new sketches. Throughout the process, we had regular presentations to the KS brand with our findings and their representatives would provide further insight on which ideas to pursue. Eventually, after several design rounds and presentations we finalized our design. From here, we were able to create a rough prototype which then led to our 3D rendering/mock-up. For our final presentation, we shared our entire process and our final design in a "Shark Tank" style showcase, with a public voting poll to follow. Finally, the team who won the competition had their design produced and sold in Kendra Scott stores the following Spring.
